3-day detox (tips and results)

[EN]: With a week full of french pastries and no gym (although lots of walking), my body feels out of balance and soft. That's why a 3-day detox is perfect to re energize and clean it (and yes, I meant inside out).
This detox I found was based mostly on juices and soups. Juices, I more than okay with them, if you've scrolled through THIS page, you can tell I don't fuss about drinking my veggies. It's a great way to start the day, filling ourselves with all the vitamins, iron and calcium we need early in the morning.

Tip: I know for most people, juices are linked with solely fruit, but beware, although it'll be tasty, fruit have sugar too, so go easy on them. Don't be afraid to toss some spinach or cucumber in there.

Souping was a delicious and easy alternative to my usual platters. For someone who loves pasta and other slow burning carbs - which I've been slowly trading for whole-wheat ones -, this was quite a challenge. It's weird not having anything to chew and be done eating in 5 minutes. It feels like you're not eating a true meal.
The trick is to eat slowly so the stomach feels satisfied at the end of the last spoonful. Don't drink it up!
And, of course, just vegetables and water won't get you through the day feeling strong, so don't forget to add an egg and these hemps seeds that act as protein.
Here are two suggestions I tried and liked:

A palavra-chave é MODERAÇÃO. And exercise!

RESULTS: after 3 days detoxing, I felt okay. On the fourth day, I felt gassy and bloated due to the high intake of fiber. If your goal is to look thinner, I don't recommend this detox.
The key word is MODERATION. In a balance diet with a form of protein (meat, fish, egg or tofu) and whole-wheat carbs (to provide you energy), include 5 servings of fruit and vegetables and never exaggerate. So either one juice or one soup per day. And exercise!

Paris Is Always A Good Idea (part II)

[EN]: The last two days of this short trip were spent between Montmartre, Le Marais, and the 1st arrondissement. It was also my friend's birthday, and actually the whole reason I was there. We met last year in Paris and became instant friends. For having the same tastes and willingness to meet with each other even though we live in different countries (she's Polish!).

These were the days where I could see Paris bare naked. I got to observe that Paris is not owned by Parisians anymore. Sure there's lot of Asian people who come in huge buses and move around town in a pack spending loads of money in designer bags (even though not seeming to be into fashion at all) and American people who feel the greatest for being the ones who crossed over the ocean and now are planning a whole European luxurious life of eating pizza in Venice and skiing in the Alps - this was, literally, something I eavesdropped on, one cannot make this stuff up (of course I'm generalizing, if you're inserted in these categories, please don't feel offended, it was just an observation).

However, the main thing I got to gladly observe was the new generation of 'expats': English folks driven to succeed in the coffee house business, creating a new habit for the old Parisian apéro time, which was established only at overpriced and too roasted coffee cafés. The forgotten neighborhoods are being transformed into hipster quartiers where in hidden streets, one can find 2 or 3 really nicely decorated cafés with an international vibe, latte art, English muffins and English baristas.

Although this wasn't the movie noir-Paris like I was expecting, it's always refreshing to see two cultures collide and succeed.

Day 2 started with a long walk up and around Sacré-Cœur. We hadn't eaten yet, but the beautifulness of this quartier made us forget about it for a while. We instagrammed for cool places to drink coffee and came across Hardware Societé, an Australian coffee-shop infused with the Parisian style. With a clean and modern decor, outside tables and aussie staff. Their accent is so delightful!
As soon as I saw they had matcha latte on the menu (for €4), I had to order it. Matcha is known for its antioxidant powers and for being a healthy alternative to coffee. Plus, everything that's green pleases me.

As we were following directions on our savior app (Citymapper), we turned our heads and there it was: the magnificent Sacré-Cœur. Although I had visited it last year, its greatness never ceases to amaze me. And the view from up there it quite something!

Parabéns, Joanna! (podes ver o blog dela AQUI)

Happy birthday, Joanna! (check her blog HERE)

In order to keep up with our long and sunny day, we had to make a compulsory stop at Angelina. This french pastry tea house, suchlike my dearest Ladurée, has the most exquisite pastries. It's like eating a piece of art (for €8).

We enjoyed our art piece at the Tuilleries Garden sitting at an inclined chair with our feet up to curb of the lake. This huge garden is a favorite to walk, run or even play. It is so big that starts at the Place de la Concorde and goes till the Louvre museum.

Another obligatory stop was the Palais Royal (5 minutes away from Tuilleries by foot). There we took the blogger picture (the first on the left) and it was Joanna turn to try matcha at Kitsuné (where I have been last year, remember?).

Next thing on our list was to climb to the rooftop of the third Printemps (Maison) and watch, once again, from above, this huge city. Here we saw all corners of Paris: Tour Eiffel, Sacré-Cœur, Madeleine, the Tuilleries, and La Défense (the financial side).

Our day ended up getting into the huge confusion there was near the Tower, where France was playing for the Euro2016 and everyone was shouting and running around with their countries' flags. We stayed there until the sun set, enjoying the view and not believing we were once again so near this unique city's iconic symbol.

Paris Is Always a Good Idea

Ah Paris, Paris!

It hasn't been a full year yet (precisely, it has only been 11 months) that I've had the most wonderful summer in this dreamy city. Going the second time, made me look at it with different eyes. Not tourist eyes that only see the monuments as a place to cross out of their to-do list, but with local eyes, allowing me to watch closely the people that come here, their reactions and behaviors, the local life and the atmosphere in each arrondissement.

My flight arrived at CGD airport on time, unfortunately I lost almost 1 hour and a half in between border control and buying the navigo pass (€26,5 to ride on metros and trains RER for a whole week). So this first day was actually half a day...

Since last year I had covered pretty much the most important things to check out in Paris (and some more), this time I wanted to explore the other areas I hadn't already. After arriving at Gare du Nord and settling in the Airbnb studio I rented, off we went to our firts destination: Canal St. Martin. Although I haven't been in Amsterdam, from the pictures I've seen, this was quite a similar scenario. It is said to be one of the coolest neighborhoods, for having that bohemian vibe, modern boutiques and english-owner cafés (meaning, not the traditional parisian ones)

Movie to watch: Amélie

The look I was going for was exactly to fit in with this quartier, a relaxed but trendy outfit with the classic Levi's tee and my favorite mom jeans with a vintage leather jacket.

Next thing on our list was to climb (the 284 steps) to the top of the Arch of Triumph (under 25 years old, it is free). And before it started pouring, we got to see the most breathtaking view from above of this magical city. We saw a rainbow laying over Sacré-Cœur, the endless avenue of Champs-Élysées and the incredible Eiffel Tower.

The night ended up at the Trocadero gardens, where we saw the Tower light up and shine to all of the thousands of Portuguese fans watching the game on the Champs de Mars and other hundreds of people who were on this side. It was a perfect day.

Fica atenta à parte II!
Stay tuned for part II!

Pressing Pause

[EN]: After a semestre full of presentations and late nights working on group projects, I was dying to get some rest and enjoy the wonderful Portuguese weather. That's why I took up on my parents' offer of exploring the coast of Alentejo and relax in a luxurious homestead. It was a long weekend where I got to restore my energies for the exams' month and got to tan a bit so I look healthier.

This lovely retreat is Herdade do Freixial. Although I'm not a countryside girl, I loved the relaxed atmosphere and the fresh nature's scent. It was invigorating!
It was really tidied up, with lovely breakfasts, delightful pool, jacuzzi and sauna, wonderful staff and very family-friendly apartments. It could not have been more perfect (excluding some mosquitoes bites).

And of course, we could not spend the whole day in the pool and forget about the unique beaches alongside the coast. These are some of the best in the world, for being preserved as a natural environment and also for providing us with the purest algae fragrance and fine sand.

Instagrammables #2

[EN]: Second episode of this series. This time the chosen Instagrammables
are: a delicious éclair from my favorite Parisian place in Lisbon: the L'ÉCLAIR (see the full post here). Every time I want to remember the good old days in Paris and taste something so exquisite as the french pastry, I go flying directly to this lovely and modern pastry shop. It's almost impossible to choose from the perfection of what it is placed on the hall counter.

SANTINI is a must f you ever come to Lisbon. They're the best Italian gelatos we have here and the combinations of fruit sorbets with dairy ice-cream (and non-dairy) are endless. That one time that I ordered a crepe with ice-cream was that time that changed my life. It's now an usual for my cheat days.

Last and definitively not least, NUT'CHIADO. Although it wasn't the most well managed in their introduction fase, after several months of being opened, the hype still continues. And it all revolver around one thing that people form this century can't resist: Nutella! From crepes, to waffles, churros and even chocokebabs, it was certain that I had to taste this madness. The churros in the picture were delicious, because they weren't fried, they weren't sickening. It was quite a rather healthier version.

Stay tuned for the next episode of Instagrammables. Meanwhile, make sure to follow me on Instagram (@inesserodio95) to know in advance what these might be!

Choupana Caffe

[EN]: Choupana Caffe is not a novelty for me. If you scroll down my Instagram feed, you may find lots of pictures of their most known products: pancakes, cappuccinos and croissants (please try the chocolate one, you'll die!). This coffeeshop is a definitively a family-friendly place, with an open and bright space, a fast and attentive service, different choices of meals (breakfast, brunch, lunch and snacks) and even a little grocery shop selling huge Nutella containers.

The first time we went there (check it here), we order as many things as we were entitled to, covering up the table with delicious 'instagrammable' items (after all, that is our purpose, even if we spend a little more eating things that we can eat at home for a lower price). However, it ended up to being too much for us to handle.
This time, I brought my camera to photograph all very attractive counter and show you one other option they have, which is the brunch. This is €14 for two persons and we choose the smoked salmon, cheese and eggs platter and a side of pancakes.
These are by far the best of these series. They're big, fluffy, light and really tasty (especially with Nutella). Unfortunately, you can only order them only the weekends, which, for me, is definitively a negative point.
